Social-Emotional Learning

for Educators

You teach emotional regulation every day - but who's teaching YOU how to refill?

You didn't plan to feel this way.

You started out passionate, inspired, and ready to change lives.

Now? You're managing behaviors, testing schedules, parent emails, and the impossible pressure to be everything for everyone.

And somehow, it seems like everyone benefits from how amazing you are except you.

It's no wonder you feel depleted halfway through the school year.

After nearly a decade in the classroom and another as an educational consultant, I've seen firsthand the weight educators carry.

The state demands performance. Society expects you to not only teach but also raise and regulate the children in your care. All juggled in a system that keeps asking for more without giving you the time, resources, or support to match.

Unfunded mandates. Higher standards. Lower morale.

The math just doesn't add up.

The result? Teachers and administrators are leaving in record numbers. In 2022 alone, the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce reported 43,000 licensed educators who were no longer working in districts.

That's just one state. Imagine the toll across the country.

Maybe you've felt the pull yourself - the thought that something has to give.

You're exhausted. Anxious. Stretched too thin.

You may be feeling burnt out. But you don't need to become a statistic.

When we ignore the warning signs, we risk losing the very people our students need most: calm, grounded, emotionally healthy adults.

In surveys of more than 100 educators, my research found that teachers and administrators are emotionally drained and physically depleted. They report chronic anxiety, racing thoughts, tension headaches, and constant body aches. Some question their purpose. Some dread each day. Many live in survival mode by midyear.

We see it play out in classrooms every day: snapping at students, disengagement, constant exhaustion, rising absenteeism, and burnout that feels impossible to reverse. Inherent in this is a truth we can't afford to miss:

Students aren't the only ones who need social-emotional learning.

As someone who spent years pouring from an empty cup until it cost me my health, I am on a mission to teach you how to keep yours filled. Because a regulated adult creates a regulated classroom. Let's build that environment together, starting with you.

What Are Happy Clients Saying?

REAL EDUCATORS. REAL STUDENTS. REAL RELIEF.

“I think that breathing, movement, and relaxation exercises in the classroom can significantly benefit students by improving focus, reducing stress and anxiety, and promoting a calmer learning environment. These techniques can also enhance body awareness, self-regulation, and overall student and teacher well-being. Breathing exercises are one of my favorites because it teaches students to hit pause and become aware of what my body, action, thoughts are doing versus what they should be doing. My takeaway is to make sure that this is a vital part to each day because it is such a high need right now in our world to take care of our mental health and I can help students by teaching them strategies to do this on their own. At first, I wasn’t sure how I’d respond to such personal storytelling in a PD setting, but she tied it directly to how students process emotion and regulate themselves in classrooms. Her message landed: if students don’t feel safe or calm, they simply aren’t available for learning. Since that session, I’ve made time in my 7th grade ELA class for simple breathing routines before tests or after high-energy activities. It’s a small shift, but I’ve noticed a difference. Students are more focused, and I feel more in control of the classroom atmosphere. I also started being more flexible about allowing movement—something as simple as a brain break or a walk to get a drink can be a reset for a student who’s spiraling emotionally."

"Mrs. Chandler's background in education enables her to deliver mindfulness and movement presentations to staff and students that stand out from other service providers. A true professional, her careful planning to meet the needs of staff and students is very evident from the way she engages her audience, and from the feedback she receives from exit tickets and surveys."

“I never knew that I needed to “BREATH” while teaching a class. This session opened my eyes to how important it is to actually FOCUS on breathing. I do this all the time now and include my students in the process.”

Teacher, River Valley Local Schools

“The breathing, moving, and relaxation session was much appreciated as well.  First of all, it acknowledged the fact that teaching is an extremely stressful and sometimes overwhelming career.  We learned some ways to calm our system, like the eight count breathing method- which I have used not only while in my classroom for myself and with my students, but in my personal life as well (flying on an airplane this summer)!  We received some freebies (relaxation eye masks, etc), and the staff enjoyed sporting those while practicing breathing.  I even signed up for some extra flyers about how to sleep better and found that sleeping on my right side, with my left ear and nostril up, helps me fall asleep when my mind won’t quiet down. Students learn best when they feel calm, focused, and emotionally regulated. By incorporating breathing, movement, and relaxation into our daily routine, I have created a more mindful, focused, and emotionally safe classroom. I used it several times this year with one student in particular who was having a rough year with her father being in prison. When she became urgently upset we would take time to just breathe deep, count and relax together. This allowed her time to become more calm, focused and  ready to learn.”

Teacher, River Valley Local Schools

Student Testimonial: "My mom really needs to do this. She's a teacher and she's always stressed out."

Teacher Testimonial: "Every teacher in the school needs to experience what these kids just did."

Bucyrus City Schools

"My perspectives have shifted entirely. I am more aware of my thought patterns and negative habits. I have added more positive habits to my life because of this. This has given me a rare hope for a brighter future."

As a DLT, we want to keep Kristie Chandler's Self-Regulation PD in mind this year. Have you tried anything? If so what? Was it for yourself? Was it with students?

Teacher Responses:

Helping students take deep breaths

Yes, breathing techniques, I followed her on social media for personal use

I have actually used some deep breathing with my students. When they are super wiggly in the afternoon, we stop and take 2 breaths. This helps before completing an assignment.

Breathing everyday.

Taking a few quiet minutes for myself, deep breaths

Breathing and relaxation finding positives in the hard days

Taking time during break, or when feeling overwhelmed, to perform purposeful breathing. This way to calm self down or just relax and reflect how the day is going. Albeit, may have missed a day or two, but try to make the time that way I can better not only myself, but have clearer thinking when interacting with the students.

Breathe Deep....even as you do 8 things!

I have tried to breathe a lot more when I get overwhelmed with pacing or planning units for this school year and it has helped me calm my nerves more this year than last year which is good!

Yes-belly breathing-It was for me, but we also do this and talk a lot about it in the choirs because of the nature of what we do.

I have used the breathing exercise for myself and the posture/breathing/stretching with my students when they were nervous about testing or too rowdy.

Yes, breathing, myself and students

Yes, both breathing techniques to relax and shared with family member

I think about my breathing more. For myself.

I regulate all the time and the loud breathing is helping.

Yes, every class I work in I've seen the teachers lead breathing exercises to calm down the class.

About Your Instructor

Hello, I’m Kristie Chandler. I am known as the Calm Classroom Cultivator.

As a former teacher and curriculum consultant who once struggled under the immense pressures of serving all students’ needs with or without the support of parents, administrators, and state mandates, it is my mission to help all educators learn how to find peace in their own bodies so they are pouring from a full cup each day. That is why it is my passion to help educators love their jobs again by teaching self-regulation strategies. When stress doesn’t pull you down, you have more energy, clarity, and passion for teaching your students.

I am honored to offer these graduate-level courses to you, for they stem from my most difficult moments.

In 2018, my husband of seven years suddenly left me and our five-month old daughter. It was my second year out of the classroom, serving as an educational consultant. I remember going to schools to work with educators having intense panic attacks. I struggled to breathe, attempted to hold in somewhat uncontrollable, mortifyingly embarrassing body functions, and quickly fell into an extreme health crisis while still showing up every day.

Only a small handful of people knew what I was going through. Everyone else wondered as they watched me continue to give more than I had to ensure they and their students were taken care of.

Had I known then what I now teach in these courses now, I do not believe I would have suffered so immensely.

It is my life's mission to teach as many people as possible - regardless of age - how to better regulate and respond to stress so nobody ever has to go through what I experienced those darkest years.

These courses were created with you in mind. They are created in bite-sized pieces. You move at your own pace. Most importantly, you leave with simple, practical strategies (not just theory) that you actually practice and will physically feel the effects of in your body and mind.

I do not promise you will leave full of knowledge from these courses.

I promise you will leave transformed.

Please reach out if you have any questions at all before enrolling. I am fully here for you, as I wish someone could have been for me.
